AI in HealthTeaching

Dr. Leon Luyten gave me the opportunity to teach a lecture on AI in medicine on Friday, 5 June 2026, to final-year medical students in the University of Antwerp ‘Terugkomdagen’ program. During their internships, students return for a few days to learn about practical topics that matter for their future careers.

I found it refreshing to think about the core knowledge you actually need to keep up with the fast pace of AI, and to critically judge what AI can and cannot do. It was also a strange and interesting experience: I was standing where I had been sitting myself about four years ago.

The slides speak for themselves, so I’ll keep this short. You can download them below.

I look forward to doing this again. And I hope these subjects become a more formal part of the curriculum of future physicians, because they will need them.

And I look forward to the future where physicians will be helped by AI to do their jobs even better AND reduce their administrative load.
